Our Mission

At Venture Out Wellness, we believe military service members and first responders shouldn’t have to wait for care when pain strikes. Our mission is to bridge the gap between pain onset and receiving treatment by providing immediate, self-guided solutions that help frontline defenders take control of their recovery.

By equipping those who serve with practical, sustainable tools to troubleshoot and treat pain early, we’re creating a culture of proactive wellness—one where military service members and first responders can stay mission-ready, reduce injury risk, and continue doing what they love with less pain.

Our Story

At Venture Out Wellness™, our mission is simple yet powerful:

We empower frontline defenders to take control of their health—helping them recover faster, stay in the fight, and remain mission-ready.

Founded by Dr. Karen Thomas, an Air Force Veteran and Doctor of Physical Therapy, Venture Out Wellness™ was built to solve a critical problem: the gap between pain onset and getting seen at Medical. Service members and first responders don’t have time to wait weeks for treatment. They need solutions now.

We get it. In your world, pain can’t wait.

Whether it’s a long shift, a grueling mission, or the daily wear and tear of the job, your body takes a beating. Waiting to be seen at Medical can mean lost time, limited duty, and prolonged recovery. But pushing through pain without a plan only makes things worse.

That’s why we created The Clarify & Conquer™ System—a tactical, self-guided approach to pain relief and injury prevention that fills the gap between pain and treatment. Our programs give you an immediate, structured system to troubleshoot and treat pain, so you can recover quickly, keep moving forward, and stay operational.

Because those who serve others shouldn’t have to wait for relief—and they shouldn’t have to sacrifice their own well-being in the process.

Why We Do It

Too many frontline defenders endure persistent pain—not because they’re injured beyond repair, but because they lack immediate, accessible solutions that fit their careers and demanding schedules. The time between the onset of pain and receiving care at Medical is often too long, leaving service members and first responders stuck waiting or pushing through discomfort. This delay prolongs recovery, increases injury risk, and compromises operational readiness.

At Venture Out Wellness, we’re closing this gap. Our programs provide tactical, self-guided pain relief so military service members and first responders can act now, recover faster, and stay mission-ready—without waiting for an appointment.

What We Offer

Meet the Founder

Dr. Karen Thomas, PT, DPT

Air Force Veteran | Physical Therapist | Founder of Venture Out Wellness

Dr. Karen Thomas, Air Force Veteran and Doctor of Physical Therapy, has dedicated nearly two decades to helping military service members and first responders stay mission-ready by overcoming pain and preventing injury.

Her journey began in 2007, inspired by working with a Wounded Warrior recovering from a traumatic brain injury. That experience shaped her commitment to ensuring that those who dedicate their lives to protecting others have the resources they need to stay strong, resilient, and in the fight.

As a former active-duty and reserve Air Force Physical Therapist, Dr. Thomas has led clinic operations, spearheaded Human Performance Training Centers, and worked with elite military teams across the globe. Over the years, she saw a critical gap in care—too many service members were waiting days, weeks, or even months to be seen at Medical, delaying treatment and increasing their risk for injury and chronic pain.

In 2022, she founded Venture Out Wellness™ to fill that gap. Her mission is to bridge the time between pain onset and receiving care by equipping service members and first responders with immediate, self-guided pain relief solutions.

Through the Clarify & Conquer™ System, Dr. Thomas provides tactical, evidence-informed programs designed to help frontline professionals troubleshoot their pain, speed up recovery, and keep performing at their best—without unnecessary setbacks.

Join Dr. Thomas in creating a future where our defenders don’t just push through pain—they conquer it.

The experiences have been both challenging and rewarding, but not without revealing a deeper, systemic issue that would steer my path forward.

During my years working with the military, a troubling pattern emerged: a cycle of preventable injuries and a pervasive sense of frustration and hopelessness among the service members and first responders I worked with. Many were reluctant to seek medical help, driven by fears of career repercussions, being perceived as weak, or facing negative backlash. Regrettably, by the time some decided to seek help, their conditions had not only become chronic but had also multiplied, leaving them facing a constellation of physical impairments. This delay in seeking care meant that members were now more compromised than ever, facing a daunting path to recovery that required significant time and effort in the clinic to address the myriad of issues, profoundly diminishing their quality of life.

In 2023, a pivotal realization catalyzed a transformative shift in my career, steering me towards a new path in starting Venture Out Wellness and leaving my clinical career behind me. I had seen and heard enough; I could no longer continue waiting in the clinic for frontline defenders to come to me for help. I realized I would need to step into a more proactive role and not only venture out to help them, but equip them with the knowledge and tools necessary for self-managed pain relief, thereby dismantling the barriers to seeking medical help.

This journey, fueled by a profound sense of purpose, is dedicated to addressing a critical dilemma that plagues our frontline defenders: the harsh choice between inadequate medical resources and the silence borne out of fear and stress. Having witnessed this challenge in clinics and hospitals globally throughout my career, I am now poised to make my most significant impact by empowering these heroes on a grander scale.  This initiative not only aims to reduce the risk of injury and chronic pain but also to enhance operational readiness and elevate the quality of life for our frontline defenders, setting the stage for a healthier, more active post-service life.

Join me on this transformative journey with Venture Out Wellness, where service members and first responders are empowered to take control of their health, ensuring they are as strong and resilient as the communities they protect. Together, we can build a future where every guardian of peace is also a guardian of their own well-being.
